DVD AT HOME
Introduction
DVD at Home is an online DVD store. Customer can purchase and download or watch DVD online on company website and can rent as well which sent to customer by mail. DVD at home spread between two building, one involves shipping and receiving of rented DVDs and another is involving administration staff and equipments’ that supports the website and the online delivery of DVDs. In this proposal it is stated the equipments will be require to fulfil company’s requirements. The list of equipments includes information about the layer or layers at which each piece of works and a short discussion of possible problems that could arise with each piece of equipment. This discussion therefore relates equipment/software to the four layer model of networking and its relationship and relevance for troubleshooting networking problems.
Main Requirements
Main requirement is one Desktop
computer for each staff member. There are 8 of staff members so we will need 8
Desktop PC and two more Desktops as risk management to prevent and breakdown in
work because of any PC’s failure. All PC with a licensed Windows Vista
operating system and Microsoft Office 2007 software in it. PC works on
Presentation Layer of OSI model which provides independence from data
representation (e.g., encryption) by translating between application and
network formats. One web server which Supports Company’s website and stores
users’ delivery order and other customer related information. Cables would be
needed for connecting PC to web client server and other equipments such as
printer, scanner or UPS sytems. DVD at home based on Internet service so
security is priority when system is working online. And one IBM client server
to inter connects both buildings and act in emergency as back- up server.
Company’s all services are based on Internet so company needs high speed
broadband services and fibre optic network between two building for fast
interconnectivity. Company would be indeed of Network Adapter; is
a computer hardware component that connects a computer to a computer
network, a Repeater is an electronic device that receives
a signal and retransmits it at a higher level and/or higher
power, or onto the other side of an obstruction, so that the signal can cover
longer distances. Network Hub device for connecting multiple twisted
pair or fibre optic Ethernet devices together and making them
act as a single network segment, Modem is a device that modulates
an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also
demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information.
Fibre media converters are simple networking devices that make
it possible to connect two dissimilar media types such as twisted pair
with fibre optic cabling. And for access internet in both building wifi is
the solution for without wiring computers. Company will need fibre optics to
interconnect web server and office server to all PC. Company is running a
website for online order and contacting customers through their details online.
In this area, company needs a solid internet security to provide protection for
online transactions and customers personal details. Landline service and
telephone devices for each desk, which act as inter communication and STD for
contacting customers and other business calls as well. So these are the main
requirements for DVD at home online services.

DVD at home spread between two
buildings so first need to assemble all 6 PC in shipping and receiving staff
and 4 PC in Administration building which will costs $760 for each PC. All PC
would be interconnecting with each other through a server in each building,
which wills costs $2000. Company have two office servers which would be
dividing into both building one in each costs $900 each. Those servers would be
connecting each other so one network of DVD at home crates which spread across
both building. Establishing a network would cost with cost of fibre optic $870.
All PC should be installed with Windows Vista operating system and Microsoft
office software in network costs $3000 of licence of operating system and
office tool. Security for website and company network will installed in web
client server and client server, which would be AVG Internet security cost for
small sized business would be $1000. For secure online transaction PAY PAL is
one the best option for website which costs $1 per transaction. Toshiba Printer
and scanner for each building would costs $900 for each. Establishing a network
of Landline service and telephone device for each desk costs $2000 with
landline surcharge. In case of lost of electricity UPS systems and electricity
generator would be necessary for keep running server and don’t get down any
time costs $3000 for each building. Company is dealing with DVD of movies so
company must have to take copyrights for renting DVDs and watching online from
particular movie production companies. Ten Network adapters would be needed to
assemble PCs in a network; two network modems would be needed for each
building; One Fibre optic converter would be needed for network and all these
equipments will costs $1000 to DVD at home.
Equipments and its working level with Trouble-Shooter
All PC and server networking will
work on the Physical Layer one the OSI Model. The Physical Layer consists of
the basic hardware transmission technologies of a DVD at home network. It is a
fundamental layer underlying the logical data structures of the higher level
functions in a DVD at home network. In case of break down or any error facing
to use of PC, company would have two more back up PC to run and keep work on.
Web server is also often generalized to describe a host that is
deployed to execute one or more such programs. All data is stored on the web

Quality of service could be damaged by break down of any cable, which could be
prevented by wifi or satellite network or Fibre optic cables. Online movie
watching on DVD at home website would be done by Presentation Layer is
responsible for the delivery and formatting of information to the application
layer for further processing or display. It relieves the application layer of
concern regarding syntactical differences in data representation
within the end-user systems by flash movie player, real media player or
windows media player on website. Website will be flexible to play any movie in
any web browser for customer by three media player online so, no type of
complain from customer comes. Security of client server and all PC in DVD at
home company secured by AVG Internet security software preventing any virus
coming through internet and other hacking and cracking attack from any user
over internet. Internet Security would works on application layer as well but
in host server only. Network Adapter implements the electronic circuitry
required to communicate using a specific physical layer and data link layer
standard such as Ethernet or token ring. This provides a base for a full
network protocol stack, allowing communication among small groups of
computers on the same Local Area network and large-scale network communications
through routable protocols, such as Internet Protocols. Company would have
ten of network adapters in which two are as back up for any break down. Main
reason for purchasing hubs rather than switches was their price. A network
device becomes active on any of the physical ports, the device attaches it to
either the 10 Mbit/s segment or the 100 Mbit/s segment and boost the
network speed. Broadband modems would be used for Internet connection, they use
complex waveforms to carry digital data. They are more advanced devices than
traditional dial-up modems as they are capable of
modulating/demodulating hundreds of channels simultaneously. Many broadband
modems include the functions of
a router with Ethernet and Wifi ports and other
features such as DHCP, NAT and firewall features.
